How to Clean My Invisalign - Orthodontic Excellence

How to Clean My Invisalign

This time, we’re looking at “how to clean my Invisalign.”

Cleaning your aligners is easy, and since they come out, you can brush your teeth the same as you do before treatment.

Invisalign treatment is a series of precisely calibrated aligners custom-fit to your unique smile. First, you’ll wear the first in the series, generally for a couple of weeks. Then, you’ll move to the next set in the series.

Therefore, each aligner is temporary as you progress toward your dream smile. Thus, aligners are meant to be for temporary usage. As such, Invisalign’s advanced SmartTrack material is somewhat delicate and needs gentle cleansing. So, it’s a good idea to avoid abrasive products like denture cleaners.

Keeping Aligners Invisible

By maintaining clean aligners, you will enjoy a more discreet, comfortable, and healthy treatment. So, you can help make your treatment efficient and have a better experience.

With daily wear, Invisalign, like retainers, builds up a coating of bacteria and yeast. However, gently brushing the aligners when you brush your teeth will wash away the buildup and keep them looking almost invisible. Not to mention, you’ll avoid bad breath.

Hot Water and Drinks Can Warp Invisalign

Please remember, hot liquids like coffee and hot water can warp aligners and retainers. Always, take out your aligners when you eat or drink something other than cool water. Also, when you are cleaning, never use hot water. Instead, use lukewarm or cool water.

Keep Invisalign Safe in a Case

Your cute Invisalign case is your best friend whenever you take out your aligners. Whenever you eat, drink, or brush, place aligners in the case. Otherwise, it’s easy to lose track of them and find yourself requiring a replacement set. In such cases, contact us right away.

By always using your case, you can form a good habit.

By using your case, you can:

  • Protect your aligners
  • Keep them clean
  • Prevent curious pets from chewing them
  • Always know where to find them

Occasionally, people sit retainers and Invisalign on a napkin. Then, they forget them at a restaurant or cafeteria. Instead, put aligners in the case. Then, place the case in the same place every time, perhaps in a purse or backpack. That way, you’ll always know where to find them.

How to Clean My Invisalign

Here are the easy steps to clean Invisalign. If possible, rinse or brush them whenever you take them out. If you’re on the go, carrying a soft travel toothbrush and a travel-size bottle of clear, liquid soap is a good idea.

How to clean my Invisalign:

  • Use a soft toothbrush reserved only for your aligners
  • Gently brush the aligners with lukewarm or cool (never hot water)
  • Where possible, use a clear, liquid soap
  • Brush all surfaces gently and rinse until clean

Using a soft toothbrush and clear, liquid soap, you can avoid scuffing up or staining the aligners. Thus, it’s an easy and gentle process.

While you sleep, keep your aligners or retainer in your mouth. Thus, they will continue to work while you are dreaming.

Invisalign Cleaning Products

If you like, Invisalign’s cleaning system offers a great way to keep them clean.

It’s up to you if you want to invest in these. However, Clear liquid soap will work very well for daily cleaning.

At your appointment, we’ll be happy to discuss the cleaning products we recommend.

Retainer Cleaning Products

Like Invisalign products, those made to soak retainers are effective and gentle on delicate aligners. Generally, you will only need to soak retainers or aligners for 5-10 minutes. Then, rinse them off and continue wearing them whenever possible.

Please note: Avoid denture cleaning products that are abrasive. Likewise, toothpaste can prove abrasive.

As a bonus, after Invisalign is complete, you will have a supply of retainer products for cleaning your retainer.

Cleaning On the Go

While on the go, you may feel the need to rinse your aligners. If you have a meal and your aligners contact food, it’s necessary to rinse them off before putting them back in. By carrying a soft travel toothbrush, you may also gently brush them off.

Similarly, try to rinse your aligners before putting them in the case if possible. However, this may not be possible on the go, so just do your best. Once a day, rinse your case in warm soapy water and pat it dry with a towel.
